Northern Balance increases capacity with North East expansion

UK-based, independent weighing specialists, Northern Balance has moved to an expanded head office to increase its capacity for the next phase of business growth.

Committed to growing its UK footprint, the new 7,500-square-feet Head Office is located at First Avenue, Team Valley, Gateshead and is double the size of its previous Team Valley premises. The new site brings together a 22-strong team of specialist weighing and calibration engineers, business administration functions and adds to the Company’s existing Yorkshire capacity at its Leeds office.

The Head Office is also home to an in-house Service Centre, a 3,000-square-feet beating hub for the wide portfolio of weighing technologies that are expertly serviced, repaired and calibrated by the Company’s technical specialists.

This is the second head office expansion since Northern Balance become part of the Gem Scientific Group in 2016 and reflects the Company’s rapid growth in the last three years. Its success is credited to the Company’s understanding of clients’ exacting requirements, which has secured notable contracts.

Justin Welton, MD of Northern Balance said, “From our origins as a family business, we’ve maintained the same core values around personal service. This has been invaluable to cementing relationships with the region’s innovators in medical science, which include CPI.”

“Technology innovation centres such as CPI play a significant role in catapulting life-enhancing pharmaceutical and biotechnology solutions into the next stages of development. Our specialist-weighing knowledge, regular-servicing support and calibration to UKAS-quality standards, provides them with the highest level of confidence in weighing accuracy. In turn, this drives efficiency and compliance, which supports patient safety in the long run,” said Welton.

“We recognise the importance of our role as an upstream supplier. Clients operating in highly-regulated industries require fast, accurate and reliable weighing solutions to keep their research and manufacturing processes moving,” he said.

“And in response, we’ve doubled our workforce in the last three years. Furthermore, the latest investment in our infrastructure reflects our continued commitment to supporting our clients to achieve quick returns now and in years to come,” said Welton.

“Our expansion into larger premises marks exciting times ahead for Northern Balance. It provides opportunities to grow our existing teams, build the region’s engineering skill through apprenticeships and support our growth aspirations,” he said.
