Creative agency Fluid Ideas upgrades studio premises

Creative agency Fluid Ideas has revamped its studio as demand for its services grows and its workforce expands.

Fluid Ideas has redesigned its Derbyshire premises to create a new boardroom and a dedicated area for staff and client meetings, events, workshops and presentations.

It has also built a props room where hundreds of items used by the agency’s image and motion team for photo and video shoots are stored. These include surfboards, wetsuits, costumes, toys, hats and picnic baskets.

The works have also included creating a new reception area and an additional breakout room for staff, and installing new IT and phone systems.

Joint managing director Phil Harvey led the project with Jamie Hovell, head of Fluid Ideas’ CGI team, and Carrie Gregory, a lead member of the brand and creative team.

Fluid Ideas, which has 35 staff, is based in a converted cotton mill at Darley Abbey Mills, a World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Derby. The agency has been there for the past nine years.

Phil said: “As the team and the business expands, we need additional dedicated space for formal and casual meetings with clients and colleagues, and for events, workshops and presentations.

“We have reconfigured an area of the building, and the alterations and new layout give us more options.

“Having an open-plan and collaborative studio is essential for our business, but the new spaces are equally important to benefit clients and staff.

“We work with a lot of national companies and, as Derbyshire is in the centre of the country, we are ideally located to host their board meetings and away days.

“Those who have come here to use the facilities say they have felt the benefit of being in a creative environment.

“The new props room reflects the need to provide dedicated storage space for our growing image and motion team in line with the huge increase in the volume of work they are being commissioned to do.”

He added: “The reconfigured studio is much more flexible to meet our evolving needs and we’re very proud of the new facilities.”

The new boardroom’s centrepiece is a bespoke table commissioned from East Midlands Wood Recycling, a community interest company which specialises in repurposing old furniture using recycled materials.
