Building futures! Barratt Developments attends career convention at Beckfoot School
Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, is continuing to encourage more young people to consider a career in the construction industry by attending a careers convention at Beckfoot School in Bradford.
The housebuilder was invited to the convention by organisers Own Futures, who offer bespoke careers education services for both children and young adults. Throughout the day, the team from Barratt Developments met over 900 pupils from five academic groups to discuss the career opportunities available within construction as well as the key skills they can develop and the career progression to expect if they considered a position within the industry.
One Barratt Developments employee who attended the convention was Gabriel Lynch, who last year was crowned Great British Apprentice of the Year at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Awards 2018 after joining the team in July 2016 through Barratt’s commercial apprentice programme, which is co-ordinated with CITB.
Paula Chamberlain, Sales Operations Manager at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West commented on the convention: “It has been fantastic to visit Beckfoot School and to speak with the pupils about the opportunities that are available within housebuilding. It’s important for this industry to become more diverse and inclusive and a big part of achieving that is by encouraging more young people to explore the opportunities that are available to them, to see how their careers could grow and progress.”
Michelle Hogan from Own Futures said: “We’re delighted that Barratt Developments were able to attend the careers convention at Beckfoot School to help the children gain further understanding of the careers paths that are available within the construction industry. Careers conventions are an excellent way for young people to explore the opportunities that are available to them, so we’re really grateful that the team from Barratt were able to come down to give the pupils some first-hand advice.”
