Leading engineers and food suppliers team up to hit strict supermarket targets

An engineering firm is celebrating the success of a major project carried out for one of the UK’s largest food suppliers.

Set against a backdrop of tight deadlines and quick turnarounds, the work at Cranswick Convenience Foods’ Milton Keynes site was completed by adi Group’s experienced environmental division.

The project was yet another successful deal in the food and drink sector for the company, following its work with the renowned Princes Group earlier this year.

The firm - a division of the Birmingham-based adi Group, which has offices across the UK - has an annual service contract with premium food supplier Cranswick, which is now in its fifth successful year.

This latest operation entailed design and installation of filtration and monitoring services to improve Cranswick’s onsite water quality, in accordance with strict standards from one of the largest supermarket operators in the UK.

Murray Evans, divisional manager for adi Environmental, said: “This is a project that really came off the back of a five-year relationship with Cranswick.

“We were asked to provide a quote within 48 hours and the order was received just 24 hours later, so really it’s testament to the value and confidence we bring to one of the largest food suppliers in the country.”

In July, adi’s Building & Refurbishment division scored a deal to extend Princes Food Group’s Long Sutton factory in Lincolnshire by nearly 19,000m², reinforcing the group’s credentials in the food and beverage sector.

“As a group, we’re riding a strong wave of momentum right now and we’re really excited by our potential as we continue to meet the needs of blue-chip firms and household names across the UK,” said Mr Evans.

The adi Environmental division is tasked by firms across the country with eradicating risks around legislative non-compliance and legionella outbreaks.

It combines effective water risk management and water treatment control to deliver environmentally compliant and energy efficient solutions to large UK operators like Cranswick.

The project for the premium food supplier included the design and installation of a new chlorine dioxide dosing system, as well as cryptosporidium filtration and online monitoring services.

Custom-built chemical storage tanks, complete with level sensors, and a remote monitoring service for chlorine dioxide reserves were also designed and installed at the Milton Keynes site.

Commenting on the project, Cranswick infrastructure manager Harry Marr was full of praise for the adi team: “We’ve worked with adi for a number of years now and this latest project was no different in terms of its efficient execution and delivery.

“As one of the biggest food suppliers in the UK, we’re relied on by household supermarkets to meet strict compliance objectives. Teaming with adi in this respect was really a no-brainer, considering the wealth of expertise at their disposal.

“We look forward to continuing what has been a mutually beneficially partnership over the course of the year and for the foreseeable future.”

The adi Environmental division, headed up by MD Martin Smith, provides consultative services to UK-based blue chip organisations and public sector partners.

It is part of the adi Group, a major Birmingham engineering firm with more than 30 specialist divisions serving household names across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
