Partnership brings affordable homes to Ryhope
A leading north east housing association has teamed up with one of the largest housebuilders in the country to provide low-cost homes in Ryhope.
A total of 23 two and three-bedroom affordable houses are being built on the Cherry Tree Park development following an agreement between believe housing and builder Barratt Homes North East. The high-quality properties are part of the latest move by the County Durham-based housing association, believe housing, to tackle out-dated perceptions of affordable homes.
Construction of the homes on the southern edge of Ryhope is underway now with the first families expected to move in early next year.
Development Officer at believe housing, Nick Bradshaw-Hughes, said: “Affordable homes don’t mean low-quality. These are excellent properties and a great example of the secure and attainable homes available throughout the region.
“We’ve already completed new homes for hard-working families in communities stretching from Rookhope in the North Pennines to Seaham on the Durham coast. We’re looking forward to offering the same opportunities to people living in this part of Sunderland for the first time.”
Ashlea Wright, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes’ Cherry Tree Park development, commented: “We’re proud to be working closely with believe housing on this collaboration to provide our high-quality affordable homes within the Ryhope area, as part of our growing development. We look forward to seeing the new properties become homes, and to continue to support believe housing progress with their hard work across the region.”
The 23 houses in Ryhope are part of a £70m plus investment by believe housing that is creating 700 new affordable properties across the region. The programme includes both purpose-built homes and properties acquired from major developers, like Barratt Homes North East.
Work is currently underway on five sites including construction in Bowburn, Peterlee and Seaham. The full programme is expected to support the employment of more than 2,100 people and provide up to 23 apprenticeship opportunities.
With headquarters in Seaham, believe housing already provides affordable homes for more than 18,000 families across the north east. All of the believe housing houses in Cherry Tree Park will be available for affordable rent when completed.
Barratt Developments was recently awarded 5 stars in the new Home Builders Federation (HBF) annual customer satisfaction survey and is the only major housebuilder to be accredited the 5-star status for ten years in a row.
Barratt Homes’ Cherry Tree Park development is set in the coastal village of Ryhope and is situated within easy reach of local amenities, alongside excellent transport links.
