£5m social care unit coming to North Yorkshire town this week
A new care centre is to open tomorrow (December 17) in Eston following a £5m transformation.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has bought the former Hillview Care Home in Eston, which is now set to prevent hospital admissions and help patients to recover and regain independence.
The Meadowgate Intermediate Care Centre provides therapy-led care and support to residents.
It includes: a reablement unit, for people who need to get their independence back; an assessment and recovery unit for patients whose recovery may be prolonged; plus an independent living centre.
Cabinet member for adult social care, Cllr Mary Ovens said: “Residents have told us that we should provide more intermediate and respite care for the elderly and this is exactly what this new state of the art 40-bed care centre will deliver.
“It will help meet the increase in demand for rehabilitation and reablement services as well as reducing hospital admissions, ensuring that people receive the care they need and can be discharged from hospital on time.”
Over 60 staff have been recruited working in health and social care as well as support service roles.
Mary concluded that she is “delighted” that the facility has been “delivered within budget and on time.”
