On The Eleventh Day Of Business: This South Shields business is the piping on the cake

For the eleventh installment of our 12 Days of Business feature, our true love has gifted us with 11 pipers piping.

Now, we had to get a little creative with this and decided to go down the route of all things cakes and sweet baked goods. Why? Piping is the icing on any cake, after all.

For today’s slot, we decided to go back to a feature earlier this year with South Shields entrepreneur and cake baker Leanne Cummings, owner and founder of Elsie’s Kitchen.

2019 has been a major year for Leanne, who received a major five-figure funding round just last month from the North East Small Loan Fund.

In March 2020, Leanne is to give up her job as a housing officer to pursue the business full-time.

Leanne has said that “baking and cookery were always just a hobby, but the response I’ve had over the last 18 months has given me the confidence to turn this passion for food into a full-time business.”

She will be going into event catering full-time come 2020, so positive things are on the horizon for the North East entrepreneur and businesswoman.

She added: “I’m open to whatever customers want me to make and the new shop will give us the space we need to expand our menu!”
