A Golden Year for Sally’s Cottages: 2019 Roundup
Local holiday cottage letting agency Sally’s Cottages is celebrating another positive year topped off by a Gold win at the nationally renowned British Travel Awards.
The company, which was set up by Sally Fielding in Eskdale 16 years ago when she sub-let a cottage from a neighbour, began 2019 with the opening of a new office in Windermere in addition to their original branch in Keswick.
Continuing their focus on digital user-friendliness, they have spent the year making further improvements to their website, which also had a quarter-of-a-million-pound upgrade in 2018. Allowing owners more flexibility to update their cottage details and improving map functionality on the website means that the website is easier for both guests and owners, a goal that the company is always striving towards.
Sally’s Cottages’ social media presence continues to impress, with over 600,000 followers on Facebook, 30,000 Instagram followers, and over 100,000 unique monthly viewers on Pinterest. In 2019, a standalone Facebook group was also launched to celebrate moments of happiness. “We wanted to create a community where our followers could go for a daily doses of positivity,” comments founder and director, Sally, “and the group is a great way for people to connect over what makes them happy - that can include holidays in Cumbria and the Lake District, but also everything else from a new baby to a favourite hobby.” Over 1,000 people have joined the group since it was created in mid-September.
Supporting the local community is still at the heart of what Sally’s Cottages do and this year they have worked closely with local businesses such as the Alhambra Cinema, Keswick Adventures and Hawkshead Chocolate Factory to promote attractions to visitors whilst also offering guests exclusive discounts. They have also utilised their Twitter following (12,000) to promote local events and have supported a number of local charities and community groups throughout the year including the Cumbrian Cricket U15 team, Cumbria Community Foundation, Rotary and CFM’s Cash for Kids.
“We’ve had another really positive year,” continues Sally, “and we’re so happy to be able to continue sharing this beautiful region with visitors whilst being a big part of a community that works together and supports one another. The start of a new decade promises lots more exciting opportunities and plans and we’re looking forward to what 2020 brings.”
