Jones Bros to deliver park and share facility off major dual carriageway

Isle of Anglesey County Council has commissioned a leading civil engineering firm to build a new park and share facility near Gaerwen, Anglesey.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK will carry out the construction project which is expected to be completed in June 2020.

The build, worth approximately £600,000 and funded through Welsh Government Local Transport Fund, will comprise of a new park and share car park adjacent to junction 7 of the eastbound carriageway of the A55 North Wales expressway near the £20m Menai Science Park.

A park and share area is designed to encourage road users and commuters to use these new facilities to park their vehicles and travel in a shared vehicle to their destination. This reduces congestion, improves journey times and is better for the environment as well as combatting cars parking in undesirable locations, sometimes known as fly parking.

Councillor Bob Parry, Anglesey Council Highways Property and Waste portfolio holder, said: “The park and share facility in Sant Tysilio has proven to be very successful and we are pleased that Welsh Government have funded this project which will further encourage people to share lifts. It can also be used as a convenient coach pick up/drop off.

“The park and share site will feature around 100 spaces with worksincluding earthworks, pavement and footway construction as well as landscaping and finishing works.”

Mike Davies, Jones Bros contracts manager, said: “We’re really excited to be working on this project to help improve connectivity and reduce congestion around the isle of Anglesey while also combatting the issue of fly parking.

“As a North Wales-based firm, we understand the importance of projects like this to communities in the region and expect a smooth programme of works in the months ahead with a team of up to 15 on site.”

Traffic management will be in place along the A5152 to Gaerwen during construction near the site entrance.
