Console king levels up in the housing game
A computer game wiz from Bristol has completed a huge level up to his first new home.
Elliot Grossman, aged 20, competes in computer games tournaments internationally and has travelled as far as Northern California, Boston Massachusetts and Washington DC to take part in big gaming events like Genesis, Shine, and Super Smash Con. His speciality game is Super Smash Bros. Melee, for the Nintendo GameCube.
Looking for a home close to work but also travel links to get to competitions easily, his quick reactions clearly helped, as he became the first person to reserve at Wainhomes’ new Blenheim Heights development, near Charlton Hayes.
“I’m delighted to finally make that leap onto the housing ladder” said Elliot. “The excellent location of the development was a big draw for me as it is close to Cribbs Causeway - where I work - and is also near to major motorways and the airport – for when I’m travelling for competitions.
“My new home has a brilliant open plan kitchen and living room – a perfect area to host games nights – and I can’t wait to get in and set up my consoles!”
Elliot purchased his new home using the Help to Buy initiative which dramatically reduces the initial deposit amount required to buy. The government backed scheme requires buyers to put down a deposit of only 5% of the property value and provides a 20% equity loan towards the remaining cost – on which no fees or interest are payable for up to five years. The purchaser still owns 100% of the home.
He continues: “The Wainhomes sales team made the whole process really straight forward and by using Help to Buy, I was able to reduce the amount of deposit I needed, making buying much more affordable than many may think. With rents as high as they are in the Bristol area, getting onto the property ladder was a much cheaper option for me – once I’d saved up enough to make the move.”
Developments for which Wainhomes Severn Valley – based on the Almondsbury Business Park – has planning permission in place, include: The Lilies at Tadpole Garden Village, north of Swindon, delivering 146 homes; Blenheim Heights, Charlton Hayes, north of Bristol - 98 homes; Saxon Meadows, South Cerney, in the Cotswolds - 92 homes; Woodshaw Gardens, Royal Wootton Bassett - 38 homes and Patterdown, Chippenham - 72 homes. Awaiting detailed planning approval are developments at Cam, Twigworth, and Woolavington which would deliver a further 339 properties.
In the year ending June 2019, the company successfully completed nearly 1,000 new home sales in the North West and South West of the country - a record year.
