Washington Community Food Project receives £1,000 donation from local housebuilder

Volunteer-led food bank, Washington Community Food Project, has received a £1,000 funding boost from local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, in line with its Community Fund initiative. Designed to support charities and organisations in the areas in which it builds, Barratt Developments North East donates £1,000 each month to a community group or charity across the region. As part of the scheme, Barratt Developments are now supporting a local food bank and an independent charity, Washington Community Food Project (WCFP).

Founded in 2012, WCFP is the only food bank that provides emergency food services to the local area of Washington and Springwell. The independent charity, which is run by volunteers, relies solely on the goodwill of the community to volunteer and provide emergency food parcels to people who need them most.

Emily Watson, Sales Manager for the nearby Teal Park Farm development, commented: “The team at WCFP do an incredible job of providing emergency food parcels to all those who need it within the local area. We hope that our Community Fund donation will help to make a difference to the charity and the volunteers, who continue providing their much-valued support within the area.”

Clive Bowman, Chair at Washington Community Food Project, commented: “We are extremely grateful to Barratt Developments for the support of its Community Fund initiative. As we rely heavily on the generosity of the local community, the £1,000 donation will make a huge difference to our food supply and allow us to provide emergency food parcels to those who need them most.”
