Barratt Developments supports local hospices for World Book Day

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which operates in the West and South Yorkshire region, has partnered with five local hospices ahead of World Book Day on the 5th March, as part of its newly launched reading initiative.

The housebuilder has donated a selection of brand new books to five hospices across the region, including St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds which has been providing the best possible care and support for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, for over 40 years.

Other donations will be made to Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield, Martin House Children’s Hospice in Wetherby, The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield and the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract.

On the donation, Catherine McCallum, Senior Fundraiser from St Gemma’s Hospice said: “We were really grateful to hear that Barratt Developments wanted to support us with its reading initiative. Reading can offer comfort and escape from everyday life so our staff, patients and their families will really appreciate the donation.”

Sam Wood, Sales Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West commented: “We’re really pleased to have been able to support these hospices ahead of World Book Day. We want our reading initiative to encourage people across West and South Yorkshire to get reading, and hope that the new materials allow the staff and patients at St Gemma’s Hospice to discover new worlds and characters.”

As part of the launch of the reading initiative, the housebuilder also installed little libraries at four of its developments across Barnsley, Bradford, Leeds and Rotherham as part of the initiative, to help local people kickstart, or re-discover their love for books.
