Housing company invests more than £1.1m in North East town
A North East housing company is investing more than £1.1m in a Durham town as part of its new housing development.
Bellway, which is completing construction on 474 new homes in Stockton-on-Tees, is contributing the six figure sum to help improve education, transport and recreation facilities in the area.
The investment includes £500k towards the provision of school places, £346k towards sports facilities in the borough, and £170k towards on site and off site play areas, while off site highways contributions totalling £110k include improvements to the Riverside Route Scheme and new bus shelters in Yarm Road.
The homes are being built at Queensgate, the site of the former Visqueen factory off Yarm Road, with the final plots now available to reserve.
The housebuilder is also providing 48 of the 474 new homes at Queensgate as affordable housing for local people through rent or shared ownership.
Darren Pelus, sales manager for Bellway’s Durham division commented: “Our Queensgate development has done a huge amount to improve the local area over the past ten years.
“Not only has this derelict former factory site been regenerated into an attractive and sustainable place for local people to live, but it has also provided substantial investment in local infrastructure and facilities which will provide benefits for residents old and new for years to come.
“The wide range of properties we’ve built here has suited different types of buyers, including first-time buyers and families, and it has been great to see a thriving new community taking shape here.
“Although our sales centre isn’t currently open, there is a final choice of properties remaining for sale at Queensgate that are available to reserve.”
