In-home care provider recruiting for 3,000 additional staff to tackle Covid-19

Caremark Limited, one of the UK’s leading in-home care providers, is recruiting for 3,000 front line care and support workers to support elderly and vulnerable clients in their own homes during the coronavirus pandemic, and beyond.

The move comes as health secretary Matt Hancock unveiled a four-point social care plan amid the national coronavirus emergency, which includes a campaign to recruit 20,000 more social care staff over the next three months.

Covid-19 is heightening demand for home care services to unprecedented levels, leading to 3,000 jobs now being available across Caremark’s network of over 120 UK locations.

“The epidemic is exacerbating existing staff shortages, whilst creating bigger demands for our services,” said David Glover, Managing Director at Caremark Limited. “Coronavirus has led to care and support workers having to self-isolate, hospital discharges increasing, a rise in the number of people convalescing at home and relatives being unable to visit their family to provide care.

“This perfect storm means we urgently need to recruit 3,000 care and support workers nationwide in order to bridge this gap and make sure people can access the excellent care they deserve.”

According to the government’s Department of Health and Social Care, nearly 1.5 million people work in the adult social care sector, but the UK’s ageing population means that nearly 600,000 more workers will be needed by 2035.

David Glover continued: “If you’ve been laid off or forced to cease trading or your perspective on life has changed, please do consider a career in care. Care and support workers are the lifeblood of our communities, especially when the country is in the grip of this emergency. We urgently need compassionate people and we’re recruiting for the long-term.”

Successful candidates will provide personalised care and practical assistance to clients, such as helping them dress and bathe, preparing meals and assisting with household chores.
