Ryanair to slash 3,000 jobs in mass restructure
Budget airline Ryanair has today announced plans to cut thousands of jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The firm has stated that it will be unveiling a restructuring initiative which could see the loss of 3,000 jobs, as a result of the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
The job cuts will mainly affect pilots and cabin crew, but will also be extended to the company’s head office and back office teams. The airline plans to notify trade unions about the restructure imminently ahead of its commencement in July.
In addition to the job losses, Ryanair intends to implement other cost-saving measures including unpaid leave and wage reductions of up to 20 per cent.
The news comes as the firm has hit out at airlines across the EU that have been supported by “unlawful and discriminatory” state aid during the global crisis, and announced plans to challenge it in the European Courts.
