Facing COVID-19: The mum-founded coding school that increased revenues 81% during lockdown

A London tech school for children has seen an 81 per cent increase in revenue in the past month after adapting its business to teach online.

MAMA.codes is a coding school for 3-11 year olds which was set up by three mothers.

The company was set up with the goal of helping children - especially girls - feel empowered about technology and coding.

In the space of one week, the school moved its classes online and trained its team of tutors to teach online.

More than 350 children joined the company’s virtual classroom, including international students.

Co-founder Liane Katz commented: “We’re a mum-founded coding school for 3-11 yr olds, set up by three London mums working across digital who wanted our kids - especially our daughters - to feel empowered about tech and coding.

“We teach coding as a language and our mission is to teach kids future-ready skills and make the tech sector more diverse and accessible.

“It hasn’t been easy, especially as almost all of us are juggling work and homeschooling, but I’m incredibly proud of our progress.

“We moved to 100 per cent online classes in one week, trained our whole team of 30 flex-working tutors to teach online from home, around their kids, and had our strongest ever month in April.

“Moving online has taken away the physical barriers to learning and we now teach children from Hawaii to the Philippines!”
