'Invigorating' £161m North London regeneration scheme gets green light
Plans for a civic quarter in a £161m North London regeneration project have been approved by Brent Council.
Peel Place, part of the South Kilburn Masterplan Regeneration Programme, will deliver hundreds of new homes as well as community, commercial and leisure amenities.
Led by mixed-tenure developer Countryside and housing association Home Group, the development will deliver 308 new tenure-blind homes, of which 41 per cent will be earmarked for affordable housing such as shared ownership and social rented homes.
As part of the civic quarter, the project will also become home to a health centre, community hub, gym, workspaces, retail and commercial units and a market square, as well as green outdoor spaces.
Andy Fancy, managing director of partnerships for North and South London at Countryside, commented: “Gaining planning permission for the entire Peel Place scheme is testament to the meticulous work we have done together with Home Group and Brent Council to shape a vision for what’s set to become a thriving new community in the capital.
“Having delivered tenure-blind regeneration schemes across the capital for over three decades, the carefully designed homes, community facilities and public amenities will serve the needs and aspirations of local residents, ensuring we have a closely-knit neighbourhood set for the future.”
Joe Cook, executive director of development at Home Group, added: “We’re very pleased indeed to have received approval for what promises to be an excellent regeneration scheme, which will add so much to this North London community.
“Like Countryside, who we work with closely, we have a wealth of experience in delivering successful regeneration schemes in the capital.
“We are very much looking forward to working with Countryside, Brent Council and the South Kilburn community to deliver homes and amenities that will invigorate and re-energise the community.”
