Voneus Appoints New Head of Fibre Delivery
Mike Quinn joins Voneus in new position to co-ordinate the company’s fibre roll-out plans
Voneus, the rural broadband specialist, has today announced that it has appointed Mike Quinn as its new head of fibre delivery. Quinn joins the team in the new role, created to develop and lead Voneus’s fibre roll-out strategy.
Quinn brings with him extensive experience in the telecoms industry, having previously held senior operational roles at Mercury Communications, FLAG Telecom, Vtesse Networks and Gigaclear plc. He has also provided project and programme management services to blue-chip clients whilst working as a consultant, and was instrumental in Zzoomm plc becoming operational.
Mike joins Voneus to lead the development of Fibre To The Premise (FTTP) roll-out, which will complement the company’s existing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service offering. Up to now, many people living and working in remote areas of the country have had no way of accessing fibre, as it has been deemed too large an investment for a small number of customers. Voneus’s unique business model connects these areas to Superfast speeds immediately via Fixed Wireless Access technology, before upgrading the community to Ultrafast fibre.
“Our ultimate aim has always been to deliver decent broadband to those on the wrong side of the country’s digital divide – be that via fixed wireless access, fibre, or indeed any other technology that best fits the bill,” said Steve Leighton, CEO at Voneus. “We are hugely excited to have Mike on board and to leverage his expertise as we continue in this important stage of the company’s strategy. His appointment demonstrates our continued efforts to ensure people living and working in remote areas are afforded a level playing field in terms of their connectivity.”
“I am thrilled to be joining Voneus at such an exciting time in the company’s development,” said Quinn. “The team’s clear focus on connecting customers in rural communities – using the most appropriate technology for the job – is in marked contrast to the industry norm of building an infrastructure first, and then hoping customers will sign up. It’s great to be joining such a creative and driven team of people.”
