Brits turn to DIY garage Improvements as lock-down leaves us stuck at home

As the country enters its third full month of restricted movement and socialising due to the global Covid 19 pandemic, bored Brits are turning to making home and garden improvements.

Event Supplier Gala Tent has seen a spiked increase in Swisstrax garage flooring sales through its motorsport supplies brand, Gala Performance, as households up and down the country add the distinctive floor tiles to their homes in a bid to do something productive with the extra time at hand.

Gala Performance Business Development Manager, Ryan Bracha, said, “I can’t blame them. I’ve personally done so many home improvement tasks and completed so many projects whilst spending more time at home. The tiles are inexpensive compared to other types, there are unlimited design options due to the colours available, and more importantly they can be fitted by the buyer in a few hours, so it’s the perfect personal project.”

The company has been supplying the product to the automotive industry for over three years, and recently secured the honour of becoming the UK’s only authorised stockist for Swisstrax, which originates from the USA. Available in seventeen colours, the flooring is hugely popular with vehicle loving American super-celebrities such as Jay Leno, and the firm has sold its product range to owners of massive supercar collections across Europe, but with more time to spend at home, Brits have been adding it to their own garages in their droves.

Gala Tent CEO Jason Mace, said, “The pandemic has been a huge test in how the company can adapt to widespread, huge changes, and I’m very pleased to say that we have the products and the team to deal with it head on. If one road closes, it’s important to be confident that we can go off-road and find new and exciting paths to explore.”

The twenty-one-year-old company has taken on nationwide economic uncertainty before in its proud history, and nothing is more testing than the Covid-19 crisis, but Gala Tent is keen to show it can adapt with an ever changing landscape. Tents that are usually the lifeblood of the hospitality and events industry have taken on new lives as pop-up coronavirus testing stations, social distancing queue shelters, entry and exit checkpoint tents, as well as adding

bright shade to homes and gardens across the UK. The success it’s finding in the flooring is just another string to the versatile company’s bow.

Mace continued, “We can’t stand still for a minute. We’ve launched a series of exclusive and distinct Social Distancing Floor Markers through our printing brand, Gala Graphics, which we’re hoping will help people to stay safe when they do venture out of the house.”

Founded in 1999, Gala Tent has grown to sell over 15,000 tents and marquees each year, along with around 90,000 event accessories and furniture products in the UK.

In the UK, Gala Tent is a preferred supplier for organisations including the military, NHS, the South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, South Yorkshire Police Service, St John’s Ambulance and AA, as well as to thousands of homeworkers and homeowners nationally.
