Scientific group acquires scientific instrument specialist in £5.3m deal

A group specialising in the acquisition of scientific instrument specialists has strengthened its market position with a new addition to its portfolio.

London-based firm Judges Scientific has today acquired the entire issued share capital of Heath Scientific Company (Heath) for an initial consideration of £5.3m.

Founded in 1994 in Buckinghamshire, Heath specialises in making calorimetry instruments - devices which measure the heat developed during a mechanical, electrical, or chemical reaction, and are used to measure the thermal properties of lithium batteries and other reactive materials.

The science underlying Heath’s products is similar to the scientific fundamentals of Fire Testing Technology, the Judges Scientific’s first acquisition in May 2005, and the acquisition forms part of a wider strategy to grow the group’s portfolio.

Alex Hambro, chairman of Judges Scientific, commented: “Heath is a world leading business in a focused global niche, selling quality products which are indispensable to the safety of the public.

“This cash generative and earnings enhancing acquisition fits within the Judges disciplined acquisition strategy.”
