North-East based Clarity Informatics Pledges £30,000 to Local Charities
A Newcastle-based healthcare technology business has donated £30,000 to three local charities to support their activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clarity Informatics has divided the donation between their corporate charity partner The Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), mental health charity SomeOne Cares, and domestic abuse charity Harbour.
The money donated to CHUF will buy technology, including iPads, enabling families separated as a result of COVID-19 to communicate. The current lockdown means that many children receiving treatment for heart conditions cannot be with their families whilst in hospital. Clarity’s donation will also go towards the cost of clown doctors for a month. The Clown Doctors programme provides a way of supporting and empowering children through therapeutic play.
Mental health charity SomeOne Cares receives a donation to provide remote support to those that need it. The charity, which normally provides face-to-face services for survivors and supporters of abuse, is now moving all its services online, as its waiting list for support is at an all-time high.
It has been widely reported that the lockdown has put extra strain on victims of domestic abuse as they find themselves forced to stay in the same home as their abusers. Clarity’s donation to Harbour will be used to set up a live chat facility on their website so clients have better access to direct service and can receive immediate help and support, as well as providing food and essential supplies for families in North Tyneside.
Tim Stewart, CEO of Clarity Informatics said: “At this time, we know that many people in the North-East need support from charities, but sadly financial aid is limited as everyone tightens the purse strings. We are proud to be able to provide this much-needed money to help three highly-deserving causes based in the heart of our community.”
Lesley Gibson, Chief Executive of Harbour said: “We are very grateful to Clarity for their donation. It really is incredible and the organisation’s generosity will make a massive difference to the lives of families and individuals suffering from domestic abuse, especially during this difficult time”
Donna Lowden, CEO of SomeOne Cares said: “We would like to thank Clarity Informatics for their very generous gift. We are using all donations to directly benefit our clients. Since January, we have seen an increase in referrals to our counselling. We are passionate about ensuring no victim of abuse goes unheard, and Clarity’s generosity makes us a step closer to this.”
Charlotte Campbell, Director of Operations and Fundraising at CHUF said: “Having partnered with Clarity for 6 months, we are so grateful that they continue to help us by funding the supply of much-needed iPads to help children receiving treatment in our heart units by enabling them to stay in touch with their families during a very difficult time. The Clown Doctor’s Beat Squad has shown to bring joy to so many Heart Heroes, both stuck on the ward and at home too so we know that Clarity will have brought smiles to so many faces.”
In addition to the donations supporting the local charities during the lockdown, Clarity Informatics has provided a range of support for healthcare professionals including the creation of video summaries, releasing a free COVID-19 e-learning module, and helping UK University Students with free access to their Prodigy learning platform. The company has also authored the first clinical knowledge summary published by NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) on COVID-19 to help GPs, GP registrars, paramedics, nurses and pharmacists with the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic.
