New route unveiled ahead of Teesside International Airport reopening

Teesside International Airport is set to mark its reopening later this month with a launch of a new route.

The airport, which is set to reopen its doors to passengers from June 22, has announced a new route to Newquay beginning July 6.

The first flights set to leave the airport will be Eastern Airways’ Monday to Friday daily routes between Teesside and Aberdeen, and Teesside and Belfast.

The previously announced flights to London City Airport will begin on July 6, and will run daily on Mondays and Friday, and twice-daily on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

From July 6 passengers will be able to fly direct to Newquay with Eastern Airways which will operate a once-a-day flight on Mondays and Fridays to the holiday destination.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen commented: “I am delighted that Eastern Airways has decided to resume flights from Teesside Airport and even grow its commitment with a new route to Newquay.

“A successful Teesside Airport will see more investment come to our region and will help to create local jobs that we need and deserve.

“Before the lockdown we secured new flights to more destinations. Now, as we restore our way of life, I’ll make sure more domestic and holiday flights resume when it is safe to do so.

“Our airport is about much more than just flights though, it is playing a key part of my plan for jobs and recovery, I’ve always said that investment won’t come on a bus, it will come through our airport terminal.”
