Andrew Supports Growth and 70% Turnover Increase

NECIT Services, a North East based company that specialises in the quality co-ordination and delivery of inspection, audit and expediting services globally, is set to grow by another 70% in turnover and increase its team by another 50% this year.

Founded by Peter and Cherelle Lyons in 2009, the family business has grown to employ nine people already and is now expanding into new territory by opening an office in the USA. The business is creating at least a further five jobs in the next six months across all locations.

Having started the business from the kitchen table, turnover hit £938k in 2018, and is forecast to continue to grow to £2.7m globally this financial year.

The recent success has led to an ambition of scaling the business to a £20m turnover company within five years. To do this, NECIT Services have enlisted the services of experienced business scale up expert, Andrew Marsh.

Vistage chair, owner of Marsh Business Transformations and previous MD of a number of multi-million pound companies, Andrew has been appointed as a Non Exec Director on NECIT’s board. He is actively imparting advice on growth, leadership, and governance to support Peter, Cherelle and the team on their journey.

Peter, who has many years experience in engineering projects at a high level but had never previously never run a company before, said:

“Being good at what you do and being able to grow a company, with the right structure, governance and accountability are two totally different things. The company had grown organically but had hit a level where I needed both support in the next stages of growth and coaching for myself to ensure my confidence and knowledge grew accordingly.

“Andrew’s contribution means we already have the USA expansion in place, along with a company group structure that sets us up for the future and has created clear boundaries of responsibility. We have grown up from a good family business to a future-ready global player, with professional business development, marketing, operations and a managing director.

“Andrew’s input has been invaluable and I look forward to growing the company to our £20m target with him onboard.”

NECIT has also succeeded in winning a global master service agreement with Worley for supplier quality inspection. Worley are one of the world’s leading providers of project delivery, engineering expertise, procurement and construction services. To be part of this framework is a huge step in the industry and reflective of the quality service they consistently deliver to customers.

Andrew, who specialises in leadership coaching, to ensure that people at the top focus on driving on their abilities and potential, said:

“NECIT only has a small pool of competitors, so the world really is their oyster with a business structured in the right way. However, handled wrongly, the company could have suffered due to a downturn in the gas and oil industry.

“It is important that new avenues were and continue to be explored. To do this, and to scale successfully, a solid team structure was needed. Through us achieving that, not only have we avoided sales reductions, but increased them impressively. The company is now classed as multi-national, growing at a fast rate.”

“There is nothing more satisfying than supporting a company to drive for future goals whilst helping hugely talented owners to grow in their own development. Peter and NECIT have a great future and I am delighted to be part of the business and see them continue to benefit from being part of the Vistage group that I chair.”
