Free support for lockdown entrepreneurs

Enterprising people in the South East of the Wakefield district are being encouraged to unlock their inner-entrepreneur as lockdown begins to ease.

RCP21, an economic development and business support agency, is offering free support to people who have used the limits of lockdown to dream up new business ideas.

The community interest company has launched a project called South East Business Lift Off (SEBLO).

It offers free business support to potential entrepreneurs and small established businesses within eligible postcode areas in the south-east of Wakefield District.

RCP21 Project Director Karen Harrison said that enterprising people who qualify will have access to the experienced team at the Langthwaite Business Park-based company.

“We know that downturns often inspire new businesses,” she explained. “Some people will see the situation as an opportunity to offer a solution to the issue. Others may, sadly, have to reduce their hours or may even be made redundant, so could use the downturn to make a fresh start.

“If they have a business idea and don’t know where to start or want to learn new skills, we would like to help.”

“The SEBLO project will give potential entrepreneurs and small businesses access to our experienced and knowledgeable business support team.

The Project is part of Wakefield Council`s PEAT Project, which is a Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Programme that is part financed by the European Structural and Investment Fund.

Karen added: “We can support people to progress their ideas including help with writing a business plan. The free help is subject to the person applying living or having a business in a qualifying postcode area.”
