New Access course for aspiring creatives
Leeds City College has launched a new Access to Higher Education in Creative Industries Level 3 Diploma for adult learners.
The first of its kind in the UK, the course allows learners to study one creative specialism throughout the year, including music performance, theatre production, TV and film, music production, acting and dance. Based at Quarry Hill Campus, students will have the opportunity to work with specialist equipment and develop their creative and academic abilities.
Devised by the Aodhan Phipps, Deputy Head of Music Media and Performance Production at Leeds City College, the innovative programme aims to bridge the gap between further and higher education for learners aged 19 and over.
Aodhan said: “This pioneering programme is the only Access course in the country which focuses on developing specialisms within creative industries. This course provides a clear pathway into the creative arts industry and is carefully crafted to ensure students learn the skills to become confident creative professionals.
“Learners will have the opportunity to work with our industry-experienced staff who’ll support students in thinking critically and working independently. The programme provides a flexible approach to adult learning by supporting the learners’ individual needs and external commitments. On successful completion, students will have achieved the vital qualification, enabling them to progress to a higher education institution within one year.”
