New Finsbury Park supermarket set to create 35 jobs

Plans for a new supermarket in North London have been resubmitted by a regeneration specialist.

U+I has submitted plans for a new 15,000 sq ft Lidl store in The Arts Building at Morris Place in Finsbury Park.

The ground floor development has been designed to complement the offer of the existing Lidl store on Seven Sisters Road, and will offer a range of groceries as well as a bakery and non-food items.

Matthew Weiner, CEO of U+I, commented: “The coronavirus crisis has highlighted how much we rely on our local shops for daily essentials.

“This new Lidl will provide a larger supermarket with greater choice, that better serves the community than an office unit that would otherwise be left empty.

“With a surplus of vacant space nearby, our plans would help to create diversity in the local market and create 35 new jobs in a significant boon for the local economy.”

Mike Devine, regional head of property at Lidl, added: “The Arts Building in Finsbury Park is a fantastic location and we look forward to welcoming customers to enjoy a wider range of high-quality products at low prices.

“If granted this would mark a multi-million pound investment in the area, and the creation of new jobs when the store opens.”
