Healthcare staff support local community
Alongside working with the NHS, staff from a leading North East Healthcare provider are supporting the local community and vulnerable individuals through food and toiletry donations.
Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital, located in Jesmond, is one of 31 Nuffield hospitals currently being used to treat non-Covid-19 NHS patients. Staff have worked tirelessly to accommodate the changes, completing additional training when needed.
The hospital has received generous gifts of food from Greggs and Dominos, as well as handmade protective scrub bags from Making for the NHS North of Tyne. Such gifts have helped boost morale and keep spirits high. The team wanted to give back to the local community and were aware that many may be struggling financially, due to sudden work changes, or that many would be unable to obtain goods such as food, easily due to health concerns and self-isolation.
A recent collection of food and toiletries, worth over £200, were donated to Hazlerigg Community Centre. Staff at the Community Centre are ensuring goods are distributed to those who need them most.
Stacey Brunton, Sales and Services Manager at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital, said: “We’ve been blown away by the generosity of businesses here in the North East and wanted to do our bit to help those in need. We hope that our collection will help make life a little easier for many local families and individuals.
“We’re grateful to Hazlerigg Community Centre for working with the community and distributing goods to those who need them. There’s no shame in speaking up if you need a little extra help at present, the virus has impacted many financially.
“Staff here at the hospital have been amazing, all have adapted well to the changes and challenges Covid-19 brought us. The North East really has come together to support one another during the pandemic and we hope that this community effort and spirit continues.”
Natasha Paley from Hazlerigg Community Centre added: “We really appreciate Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital’s donation. We are working closely with our local and wider community to identify and support people who’re vulnerable or those who’ve found themselves struggling to make ends meet.
“Packages are being safely delivered by our team and donations like Nuffield Health’s help us continue to support our community throughout the pandemic. We’re hoping to help people for as long as we’re needed.”
