Life After Lockdown: The centre offering meditation to help staff through the current climate
As the country emerges from lockdown, it’s a very different landscape for a lot of businesses.
Bdaily spoke to business owners across the country about how they’re changing their ways of working, and what innovations they’re adopting permanently after lockdown.
The Compassion Centre in Gosforth is providing ‘Working through Change’ meditation and guidance sessions to help staff manage their mental health and deal with challenges in the current climate.
The centre’s resident teacher, Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Sherab, will deliver live 30 - 45 minute, online classes to groups of employees, with topics around dealing with change, cultivating kindness and patience.
The sessions can be delivered to up to 30 staff, and include a 10 minute meditation to calm the mind, guidance on dealing with change, and a final meditation focusing on the advice.
Gen Sherab commented: “We want to offer businesses the chance to give their workers mental space where they can feel safe and secure, giving them tools to feel more peaceful, together and strong.
“The way the meditation sessions will deliver this is by teaching people how to train the mind and offer tools to approach the constant change we face.”
“The sessions will help to change how staff perceive their working environment, so they can see it as a supportive place.
“People are facing a lot of insecurity at the moment, and when people come to work feeling insecure, they can be unhappy and possibly not as efficient as they could be.
“But if they come to work knowing that the company cares about them, it gives them a sense of stability and security, so they don’t feel like they are on their own.
“This will help them to feel more calm, relaxed and peaceful, and in turn, more productive at work. They can then give so much more to their working time.”
