Henry Boot Construction completes over 300 educational visits

Earlier in the year, Henry Boot Construction celebrated the delivery of over 300 educational workshops as part of its work to deliver The Glass Works scheme, a multi-million pound regeneration project funded by Barnsley Council.

Back in 2017, the construction firm set a goal of achieving 20 educational workshops but has gone on to smash that figure, reaching out to even more young people across the South Yorkshire region.

Explains Adeana Raper, employment & skills manager for Henry Boot Construction: who retired at the end of April: “One of our key partners in the educational visits is Barnsley College. Everyone there continues to be so supportive of our goals, encouraging hundreds of students to find out more about the UK construction industry and the wealth of opportunities it offers.”

Each educational visit featured numerous different elements including careers talks, activities in the Skills Village, site tours, presentations and talks about the UK construction industry.

Work is progressing on the second phase of The Glass Works project, which includes 26 new retail units, a 13 screen Cineworld, Superbowl UK, seven restaurants and cafes, a new public square and 500-space car park. The first phase included the new Library @ the Lightbox and the newly refurbished Barnsley Market. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2021 and will provide a vibrant town centre that is welcoming, safe and accessible for all. Professional teams include Queensberry and Turner & Townsend.

Concludes Adeana: “We’re delighted to have completed over 300 visits. Henry Boot will continue to invest both time and money into this particular education project and sincerely hope it will form an integral part of our employment and skills legacy here in Barnsley.”
