Leeds language tech firm lands EU translation partnership

A language tech company in West Yorkshire has secured a contract to work with the European Commission on documentation translation.

Language specialist thebigword has been appointed to translate documents on the EU’s policies and administration from Dutch into English for the next four years.

Headquartered in Leeds, thebigword has 14 offices around the world, employs over 500 staff and a network of more than 15,000 linguists to support its online and telephone translation services.

The news comes less than six months after the firm announced a new partnership with global retailer Walmart.

thebigword’s global chief revenue officer Clare Riches commented: “thebigword strives to break down language barriers wherever they are found and we are delighted to be supporting the European Commission with Dutch to English translation.

“We are noted for the high quality and efficiency of our translations and we look forward to a long partnership with the European Commission.”
