Work starts on 75 home development in North Shields
Construction work to transform a disused reservoir in North Shields into a development of new houses has got underway.
Bellway is building 75 homes at its Northdene development, a collection of two, three and four-bedroom properties, on the site of the former Moorhouses Reservoir, off Billy Mill Lane.
Planning permission for the scheme was granted by North Tyneside Council earlier this year, with demolition taking place shortly afterwards to prepare the eight-acre site for redevelopment.
Northdene will comprise 56 houses for private sale as well 19 affordable homes to be made available for rent or shared ownership. The first homes are due to go on sale in spring 2021.
Emma Chesterton, head of sales for Bellway North East, said: “We are pleased to announce the start of construction work at Northdene.
“This development will not only provide much-needed housing for North Shields but will also revitalise a derelict piece of land which has become something of an eyesore.
“The variety of house types available at Northdene will cater for buyers at different stages of the property ladder, while the 19 affordable homes will also make a valuable contribution towards meeting the area’s housing needs.
“The site is an excellent location for housing, with both Tynemouth beach and the Silverlink shopping park just a short drive away, and we are looking forward to releasing the first homes for sale next spring.”
