New images unveiled of Quayside West development set to create 500 jobs

New images of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme in Newcastle city centre have been released.

CG images of the Quayside West development have been revealed by developer Newby as it prepares to seek planning consent for its latest proposals.

The new images follow Newby and joint venture partner Reditum Capital reporting they had amended plans for the brownfield site in line with the feedback from the Council’s planners, with emphasis on the inclusion of more open spaces and maximising views of the River Tyne.

Plans for the 15-acre vacant former industrial site will deliver 1,100 new homes as well as a 135-bed hotel, local parks and new public recreational routes, and is expected to bring an investment of £250m into the city, and with it 500 jobs during the 10-year construction period.

Simon Hepden, director at Newby, commented: “Quayside West gives us the unique opportunity to regenerate and breathe new life into a site which has lain empty for 20 years and could easily continue to do so for another 20 as it’s not an easy site to develop.

“Getting Quayside West underway gives the clear message that Newcastle is open for business despite the chaos Covid-19 has brought.

“We will create jobs, homes and spaces for communities to enjoy together – and with that comes more revenue and prosperity for the North East. This is a once in a generation opportunity to create something really special.”
