180 jobs at risk as Sage Gateshead enters redundancy talks

Music centre Sage Gateshead has announced the start of a redundancy consultation which could see 180 jobs axed.

The live music venue has entered into a 45-day consultation process with staff after losing revenue as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

Sage Gateshead has estimated a £10m loss as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent business disruption, and will be considering redundancies despite the government’s launch of a £1.57bn support package for the arts earlier this month.

A spokesperson for Sage Gateshead commented: “Like many organisations across all sectors, Sage Gateshead has had to make the very difficult decision to start a redundancy consultation process.

“Each and every one of our team is highly skilled and committed and all have played a huge part in the success of our organisation to date. It is of great regret that any of these roles are at risk.”
