Construction work set to begin on housing development in North Yorkshire

Construction work is set to begin on 21 new affordable homes in a historic North Yorkshire village.

Housing association Karbon Homes is behind the project, which will provide a mix of two and three bedroom homes in Brompton.

The development is located in the centre of Brompton at Danes Crest, between Cockpit Hill and Lead Lane and will meet demand for smaller, more affordable homes in the area.

The project will provide 2 two-bedroom bungalows, 11 two-bed houses and 9 three-bed houses, ideal for young families. The homes will be a mixture of Affordable Rent and Rent to Buy properties.

Ged Walsh, director of development at Karbon Homes, commented: “Our development at Danes Crest will provide much needed high quality homes for local people and families and addresses the shortage of smaller, more affordable homes in the district.

“We identified a particular need for this type of housing in Brompton, with the majority of homes available on the Rent to Buy scheme, which will help potential buyers into home ownership.

“The development will be managed by our partners at York Housing Association and will support Hambleton District Council’s strategic housing market assessment of providing homes for future generations.”

Councillor David Webster, portfolio holder for planning from Hambleton District Council, said: “The council welcomes the start of construction for this new housing scheme.

“It will provide much needed affordable accommodation in Brompton for local people. I look forward to seeing this progress over the coming months.”

The main contractor for the site is Gus Robinson Developments and work is expected to be completed in autumn 2021.
