Co-op announces 1,000 new jobs with 50 new stores to open before year end
A UK grocery chain has announced that it is creating 1,000 new jobs as it opens 50 new stores before the end of the year.
As well as the new stores, Co-op is investing £130m that will go towards renovating 100 of the chain’s existing locations.
The new roles come after the brand introduced 1,000 jobs during lockdown as sales demand increased, and will be spread across the 50 new stores and 15 stores that are being enlarged.
The news follows a public statement from the company on Twitter saying that it will no longer advertise with The Spectator due to concerns over transphobic editorial content.
David Roberts, managing director at Co-op Property, commented: “Co-op works to operate at the heart of local life, making a difference in its communities.
“Multiple factors motivate consumers, with ease, choice and added services chief among them.
“We continually look for new locations, sites which are definitively convenient in their community – closer to our members and customers with proximity shopping a key consumer consideration.
“Co-operation is a fundamental part of our DNA, and through our partnership approach we are enriching our offer to make convenience truly compelling in our communities.”
