County Durham residential project set to create 500 jobs
A new multi-million pound County Durham residential development set to create hundreds of jobs has been given the green light.
Planners have given approval for a new 190-home project in Pelton, a village to the north west of Chester-le-Street.
Comprising a combination of two, three, four and five bedroomed houses, the development will also include provision for 29 affordable properties.
In addition to the new homes, plans for the site also encompass attractive landscaped trees and hedgerows in accordance with the approved Open Space and Landscaping Plan in a bid to improve amenities for local people.
Onsite construction work is expected to start at the end of the year, with the first phase of new properties expected to be available by early 2021.
Developer Miller Homes, working with North East planning consultancy Hedley Planning Services, expects to see more than 500 construction, supply chain and retail jobs created through the project.
Joe Ridgeon of Hedley Planning Services, who liaised with County Durham Council’s planning department, commented: “As planners, we want to see the creation of exciting and rewarding housing schemes in the North East region that leave a long-lasting legacy.
He added: “This one will undoubtedly see a real positive change to this part of County Durham.”
