easyStorage supports Food from the Heart initiative

easyStorage Co-Founder and CEO, Tim Slesinger recently visited Athens, Greece, to support Food from the Heart initiative alongside easyGroup Founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

Food from the Heart was set-up by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation in 2013 and supports local communities in Greece and Cyprus by distributing nutritious food to over 300,000 people every month.

Tim accompanied Sir Stelios to the Charilaou Trikoupi distribution centre, one of seven distribution centres in Athens, to volunteer and see how the initiative is helping the local community. While he was there he also helped to distribute food to the 1,000+ people that visited the centre that day.

Tim Slesinger, CEO and co-founder of easyStorage, said: “This was my first visit to a Food from the Heart distribution centre. It was heart-wrenching to see that there is so much need for the initiative, but heart-warming to see how Sir Stelios and his team have risen to the challenge to help the many who are simply otherwise forgotten. Sir Stelios spends approximately 30% of his time on the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and is always keen that we help in any way we can. I was honoured to be able to spend a day witnessing the great work the foundation is doing.”

During Tim’s trip, he also met with Sir Stelios for the easyStorage quarterly update, to discuss the company’s performance and how easyGroup can support the businesses future growth.

Earlier this year, Tim co-founded easyStorage’s own charitable food project, Fresh Food for the Frontline, to support frontline workers and the vulnerable through the pandemic. When key workers were overwhelmed and didn’t have time to buy fresh food, they were provided with a week’s supply of healthy produce delivered to their doors including fruit, vegetables, bread, milk and eggs.

3,345 weekly shops were distributed across London, Slough and Swindon during the five-month project, delivered with the help of volunteers and a fleet of 12 easyStorage vehicles which were repurposed from its mobile storage network.

Tim continued: “Seeing the great work Food from the Heart is doing really inspires me to expand the Fresh Food for the Frontline project. While the project has concluded for now, we have kept everything in place should frontline workers become overwhelmed by a second wave of COVID-19 and are ready to re-start if demand returns.”
