Hundreds of jobs to be created with Yorkshire warehouse development

A new 123,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution centre is set to be built which developers say will create hundreds of new jobs in Hull.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Planning Committee has granted full planning permission for the development at Melton West Business Park, which is owned by Wykeland Group.

Work on the warehouse and distribution centre will commence in early 2021 and will be completed by the summer.

The developer said the new facility will be fully in keeping with, and complementary to, existing employment uses at the site.

Melton West Business Park covers 200 acres with 800,000 sq ft of completed development. Other businesses on site include Heron Foods, generator manufacturer Allam Marine and shower maker Kohler Mira.

A further 150,000 sq ft of development is currently under construction on site, including a new Humberside Police command and control centre and operational support building, with detailed planning consent in place for an additional 100,000 sq ft.

Wykeland managing director, Dominic Gibbons, commented: “We are delighted the committee members have supported this development, which is fully in line with planning policy for the site.

“The approval paves the way for a significant inward investment which will bring hundreds of new jobs to the area.

“The land has been zoned for employment use in the Local Plan since 1996 and, having acquired this part of the site in 2018 and incorporated it within our Melton West business park, we are pleased we are now able to deliver on its potential.

“We have been very pleased to work with the end user, from inception through to planning, and will now move to the construction phase.

“We plan to appoint contractors to begin work on site before Christmas with the construction of a new roundabout on Brickyard Lane, to facilitate access to and from the A63.

“As with all our developments, we will continue to keep the local community fully informed and engaged as this scheme moves forward and delivers a major boost to the regional economy.”
