Hull firm creates 80 new jobs in new facility amid staycation boom

A Hull caravan manufacturer is set to create 80 new jobs as a result of the growing trend for ‘staycation’ holidays during the pandemic.

Atlas Leisure Homes is recruiting for 80 new staff in its caravan production operations, including jig shop and cab shop operators, finishers, roofers, and furnishers.

The firm has seen its order book increase since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent restrictions, with holidaymakers opting for UK-based holidays over trips abroad.

With support from HSBC UK, the firm has invested in 55,000 sq ft of additional manufacturing space in the West Carr Business Park (the former McBride plant) on Sutton Fields to accommodate the new production lines.

Atlas Leisure Homes’ operations director, Colin Jeffrey, explained: “Obviously it’s been a tough time in our industry.

“Like many others we had to furlough staff during lockdown and even when we were able to return to our existing production site, we didn’t have enough space to allow our staff to return to a safe environment.

“So, we’re delighted to be in a position to recruit so many people and to have the space to be able to safely take them on.”
