Wakefield company opens doors to expansion with employment hub support

A door manufacturer in Wakefield has successfully expanded its team thanks to the support of an employment hub talent-matching service.

Global Doors Ltd, based at Roundwood Industrial Estate, partnered with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Employment Hub to find the new recruits, including four new apprentices, which takes its team numbers to 30.

The company, which was established as a one-van operation and has grown to a fleet service, sells made-to-measure wardrobe solutions and interiors to property, trade and independent retailers.

The LEP’s recruitment service, offered through the Employment Hub in Wakefield, has matched Global Doors with suitable job seekers, alongside predictions that the pandemic could lead to the unemployment rate in the local area rising to 14 per cent, taking £12bn off the value of the local economy.

The business also received funding from the LEP to invest in new equipment.

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority and leader of Bradford Council, said: “It is now more important than ever that we continue to provide local businesses and individuals with support for their employment needs.

“This is to ensure everyone can benefit from a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

“We will continue to provide support through our Employment Hub initiatives to job seekers to ensure they have access to training, skills and careers support to navigate the current job market.”

Claire Hurst, head of marketing, communications and learning of Global Doors Ltd, added: “The West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the LEP are trusted partners who can help us not only find the right new team members, but they have an understanding of our business needs.”
