Ambitious Stevenage town centre project given green light

DESIGNS by the award-winning team at Sheffield practice CODA Architects are set to bring new life to Stevenage town centre.

The town’s planning committee gave their unanimous approval to the proposals for the scheme that will deliver 250 homes and commercial premises in an 11-storey scheme on the site of the former BHS department store.

The long-awaited project was brought to a successful conclusion with the support of Urbana Town Planning.

“The important thing about this scheme is that it really will breathe much-needed new life into the community’s High Street, supporting ambitious regeneration plans for Stevenage town centre set out in the Local Plan and the Town Centre Framework,” said CODA Managing Director Matt Bowker.

“Following on a raft of very successful projects for CODA throughout the north of England, we are delighted that our reputation for excellence is spreading nationwide.

“This is a scheme that presented many very specific challenges and was in planning for 12 months before we came up with a design solution that met with approval across the board.

“We look forward to seeing the project go on site as we believe it is a prototype for the future of successful town centre development that other communities will be looking at with great interest.”
