Plans unveiled for multi-million pound central office hub in Teesside

A North East company has unveiled plans for the next phase of a multi-million-pound office space.

Ashall Projects has submitted a planning application for a four-storey office building in the centre of Middlesbrough. This follows on from its neighbouring Centre Square project.

Despite uncertainty caused by Brexit and the Coronavirus pandemic, the Centre Square development is starting to fulfil its potential, which has given Ashall Projects the confidence to proceed with their subsequent office space.

The Grade A office space will be on the corner of Melrose Street and Grange Road and replaces Melrose House, which was demolished during the first lockdown of 2020.

Questions were raised about the need for new office space in a public consultation. However, Mark Ashall, director of Ashall Projects, explained: “It’s all about the quality. There is significant latent demand for Grade A office space in the region and Middlesbrough has the potential to become a major office hub in the North of England.”

Mark continued, “We believe the office workplace will continue to be important as somewhere staff can get experiences that cannot easily be replicated elsewhere. Although many employee roles can be undertaken while working from home, others are much more difficult to achieve there.”

Construction on the new building, which will be called Six Centre Square, could begin soon after planning approval.

Middlesbrough mayor Andy Preston added: “There’s real momentum behind the Centre Square project and it’s fantastic to know that top businesses are already interested in future plans.

“Clearly any development will have to go through the planning process in the normal way, but the potential for jobs and long-term prosperity is huge.”
