New hotel checks in to Sheffield as planning application approved

Plans for a new hotel in the centre of Sheffield have been approved as part of a city-wide transformation scheme.

The new hotel, on Pinstone Street, will be owned and operated by international hotelier Radisson Blu, and will be complemented by a secondary building on Burgess Street.

The plans were submitted in August this year by Sheffield City Council and its strategic development partner, Queensberry, and are the latest to be approved as part of Sheffield’s ‘Heart of the City’ scheme.

The scheme aims to “breathe new life” into the city centre, making it a more attractive place to work and live.

Councillor Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and investment at Sheffield City Council, commented: “We’re delighted that our plans to introduce a new hotel to the heart of Sheffield have received planning approval. I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their comments on these proposals.

“We believe that the arrival of Radisson Blu – a brand of real quality and prestige – not only demonstrates confidence in our city as a worthwhile investment location, but will be a key factor to attracting more businesses and will complement the ongoing rejuvenation of our city centre.”

Andrew Davison, project director at Queensberry, said: “We’re pleased to learn that we have received the go ahead to develop the Radisson Blu hotel in Sheffield city centre. “The hotel’s premium brand reputation provides confidence and will no doubt help attract further investment opportunities for Sheffield.

“The hotel’s luxury rooms, first-class conferencing facilities, and bars and restaurants, will deliver a new dynamic to the Heart of the City scheme and wider city centre.”

Adela Cristea, senior director and head of business development UK & Ireland at Radisson Hotel Group, added: “We’re very excited to be at the forefront of Sheffield’s regeneration project in a fantastic location at the heart of the city, as well as adding this vibrant new property to our selection of Radisson Blu hotels across the UK.”
