Planning application submitted for new homes in Gateshead
A planning application has been submitted for a development of new homes in Gateshead.
The former Dunston Hill Hospital, north of the Whickham Highway, has been identified for redevelopment by Gateshead Council.
Story Homes is seeking permission to build 46 homes on the brownfield site, with its proposals include a mix of three, four, and five-bedroom properties from the ‘Story Collection’ as well as five affordable three-bedroom houses.
Story Homes application follows on to one made by the Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust in 2016, where it was granted outline planning permission for up to 35 properties on the former hospital site.
Richard Swann, Story Homes’ planning manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring forward our proposals for the redevelopment of this site, and with agreement from Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.”
He continued: “In our planning applications, we are taking forward the existing reserved matters application with an updates site plan to provide 35 units approved at outline; and a second detailed matters application to deliver 11 homes within the site’s walled garden as part of our wider proposals for the former hospital.”
He finished off by saying: “This development will provide much needed executive family and affordable homes in Gateshead, helping the authority to meet its five-year housing land supply target and achieve one of its key aims of redeveloping derelict brownfield sites.”
It is anticipated that a decision on the planning application will be made in spring 2021.
