Yorkshire building society swings to biggest branch yet in "major commitment" to Leeds
A Leeds financial institution has announced that it is expanding its city centre premises as it moves to the largest branch in its network.
Leeds Building Society will move from its Albion Street venue, which is has occupied for more than 80 years, to a larger site on Commercial Street.
The site, which was formerly a Monsoon store, is set to have refit works start shortly, and is expected to be ready for the society to move into next year.
The company announced earlier this year that it is also moving into new head offices at Sovereign Street in Spring 2021.
Richard Fearon, CEO at Leeds Building Society, commented: “This news reflects our commitment to Leeds and I’m pleased our business, which has served the local community for over 140 years, has been able to secure this prominent and prestigious site.
“We’ve been based in the heart of the city since 1886 and on our current site since the 1930s, so have invested a great deal of time and effort to identify a prime location for what is our biggest branch.
“The building we’ve chosen is in a great, central location, easily accessible and amongst many other national high street brands in one of the busiest parts of the city.
“We know how much our friendly face-to-face service is appreciated by our members and the Society remains committed to providing a sustainable branch network to help our members save.
“This new central Leeds branch and our new head office represent a significant investment in the future of the Society and a major commitment to the city of Leeds in the long term.
“We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to our new home when we open in Commercial Street next year.”
