Rob’s oven cleaning efforts raise more than £300 for South Devon foodbank

The owner of oven valeting firm Ovenu Newton Abbot has raised more than £300 for a South Devon foodbank after donating ten percent of his November takings.

Rob Burkitt, who only launched the business in October, chose to help the Homeless in Teignbridge Support (HITS) foodbank.

The father-of-three initially raised £235.50, which included a client’s £10 donation, before rounding the figure up to £250.

With the addition of gift aid, he was able to hand over £312.50 to the foodbank that helps families and individuals experiencing financial hardship.

Theresa Copsey, of HITS said: “We are very grateful to Rob for his support. Donations like this means that we can continue providing even more food and household crisis and toiletry packs, to those across Teignbridge in need of extra support during the winter months.”

Rob, who lives in Torquay, said: “These are such challenging times for so many people and I really just wanted to do something positive to help. I know that Theresa and HITS will put this money to good use.”

The 33-year-old, who is also on the board of the Torquay United Supporters Trust, previously donated £100 to the local Rec Trust, which provided free school dinners to families in need during October half term.

Rik Hellewell, managing director of the Ovenu franchise, said: “I commend Rob’s community spirit and praise him for such a fantastic effort during his first full month running the business.”

Ovenu Newton Abbot, covers the town together with surrounding areas, including Teignmouth, Dawlish, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chagford and Moretonhampstead.
