Leeds developer snaps up two new acquisitions in investment drive
A UK property developer has acquired two new spaces in Leeds city centre.
HBD, which opened its Leeds office in January, has added two buildings on Mabgate Street to its portfolio and will work with the current owner occupier Cohen & Wilks to oversee the buildings’ redevelopment.
There are existing plans for a Leeds City College campus site adjacent to HBD’s new site, which is expected to provide new education facilities, a sports complex, and residential development.
Adam Brady, national head of regeneration at HBD, said: “This is a great site with massive potential – city centre regeneration is a key focus for HBD, and this scheme will no doubt be the first of many in Leeds.”
During 2020, HBD has grown its Leeds team to eight and has expanded its development pipeline across Yorkshire and the North East. One of those members is Tom Wheldon, director and head of HBD’s Leeds office.
Tom said: “This is an exciting addition to our Yorkshire development pipeline. Mabgate is a distinctive area with a rich industrial and creative arts history.”
He continued: “Given the site’s proximity to Leeds city centre, we identified a great opportunity to complement its vibrant existing community and reposition the mix of uses on the site for the next chapter in Mabgate’s evolution.”
