Blister prevention pad sees North West entrepreneurs take giant steps forward
The North West entrepreneurs behind PelliTec®, the innovative blister prevention pad, are celebrating as the National Institute of Health Research has awarded the company a grant to progress a ‘proof of concept’ study at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The study will investigate use of the pad to establish if the patented PelliTec anti-friction technology can help manage clinical problems such as diabetic foot ulcers.
The PelliTec team will be working with a consultant from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and a leading academic from Manchester Metropolitan University throughout the study.
If that wasn’t enough activity for the Thornton Science Park based company, they have recently sent an initial order of their innovative product to Japan for use by the military and have just signed an exclusive deal with a well-established sports medical distributor in Ireland.
Peter Broxton, a Director of the PelliTec® team, said: “It’s been a whirlwind few months for the team and we’re incredibly excited about what’s to come in 2021.
“We ended 2020 being shortlisted by Mills & Reeve in its Top Tech North West 2020 report which is testament to the brilliant technology and product we’ve developed. In an age where more and more services are digital and online, we think it’s important not to forget the physical products like ours which can make a visible impact to the user.
“The ‘proof of concept’ study at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals will also be an eye-opener for us thisyear. We’re incredibly proud of the product we’ve developed and we are looking forward to seeing how its support in the management of diabetic foot conditions can be proven and accredited.”
Mills & Reeve’s Top Tech series brings together like-minded businesses from across the regions to celebrate the ground-breaking technology being developed locally and give it the recognition it deserves.
