Yorkshire family business announces Hull waterfront office move
A Yorkshire family business has announced it will be moving to new office buildings on Hull’s waterfront.
J.R. Rix & Sons, which has been present in the city since the early 1880s, has acquired Two Humber Quays, a grade A office building for an undisclosed sum. The company will move from its current base on Spyvee Street later this year and occupy the ground floor, as well as parts of the second and third floors.
Two Humber Quays’ current occupiers RSM UK, Barclays Commercial, BCD Travel, and Chameleon Business Interiors will all remain in the building after the buyout.
The building’s location on Hull Marina ties into the company’s maritime heritage. J.R. Rix & Sons started out as a shipping business in 1873, though that is only a small part of what the company does today.
Rory Clarke, managing director of J.R. Rix & Sons, said: “Although Covid has facilitated effective home working, we believe things will eventually return to a more normal way of doing business. For us, a well-designed office space is central to that.”
He continued: “Home working makes it very difficult for new members of staff to become engrained in our culture, which we feel is essential. Because of this, we see this acquisition as an investment in our business, an investment in our people, and a vote of confidence in the future of our great city, Hull.”
