London site with Sherlock Holmes and royalty links transformed into boutique apartments
A property in Marylebone with links to Sherlock Holmes and royalty has been converted into a ‘boutique’ residential development.
A Grade II listed Georgian townhouse at 16 Devonshire Place has been transformed into six new apartments, following a five year renovation project led by boutique developer DAO Estate and architectural practice MWAI,
Originally built in 1790 by Marylebone architect and developer John White, previous owners include solicitor Frederick Willis Farrer whose clients included Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Oswald Vaughan Lloyd-Davies, Harley Street surgeon and president of the Royal Society of Medicine whose clients included HRH Princess Mary and HRH Princess Marina, Aunts of HM The Queen.
The newly revamped site comprises six apartments including one, two and three bedroom homes and a four bedroom duplex residence.
Following its completion, 16 Devonshire place has now been brought to market via joint sole agents Aston Chase and Beauchamp Estates.
Mark Pollack, co-founding director of Aston Chase, commented: “16 Devonshire Place provides an extremely rare opportunity for a buyer to acquire the freehold of an entire Georgian residence for use as a home and rental investment.
“Alternatively it can be purchased as six separate luxury apartments including the signature duplex arranged over the ground and courtyard garden floors which is undoubtedly one of the finest apartments of its kind in Marylebone.
“This development represents a great opportunity for discerning purchasers seeking high quality accommodation in Marylebone in a boutique building with low overheads compared to the more widely available newly developed blocks of flats which often provide numerous under-utilised amenities that tend to attract non-resident buyers and result in high overheads and little sense of community.”
Rosy Khalastchy, head of office at Beauchamp Estates (St John’s Wood) added: “16 Devonshire Place is located at the favoured Regent’s Park side of this sought after Marylebone address and the five year restoration project has created arguably the finest boutique residential scheme in Marylebone.”
